You Sew It! Steal the Game Show Dress
| January 24, 2012 | Posted by Karen under Frugal Friday, Super Cute Patterns, Thrifty Savings, You Sew It |
I’m that quirky friend who sees a really cute dress in a shop and says, “I can sew that!” I instantly run through all my patterns in the Rolodex in my mind and think, “Which pattern would work for this??”
I thought there might be a few others out there who like the challenge of making it yourself. I am kicking off a fun series where I find cute dresses and then try to locate a pattern that is similar and a fabric close to the dress too. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I have had in putting it together!
First one, Steal the Game Show Dress from Mod Cloth!
I found the Butterick B5030 mock wrap dress pattern. The pattern comes with different sleeve options, and you simply exchange the thin bow to a nice large bow like the Modcloth and you have it! The fabric I found at Fabric.com for $9.98 a yard. It’s not a sheer fabric, but I like that I wouldn’t have to line it!
The great thing about sewing is that you make the dress how you like it. Personally for me, I’d make the Mod Cloth dress to below the knee, other than that, I love it!
Happy Sewing and looking forward to showing you more fun dresses you can sew!

I love this idea! I totally do this with most things I find. My problem is getting it out of my head and onto the fabric. That’s a step I need to set a goal to work on. Did you see that the Butterick pattern is on sale for $1.99?!?! That’s awesome. I’m excited to see this series. It’s a GREAT idea!!!
I’m thrilled you like the series.
Yes, and the pattern is on sale! Woohoo! We could make this dress for under $20!! Not bad. Thanks for stopping by.
